Ant-Man 3 Trailer Might’ve Secretly Revealed Kang’s Greatest Weapon

Kang the Conqueror’s most dangerous weapon may have made a stealthy appearance in the trailer for Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. The MCU’s infinitesimal micro-verse that is the Quantum Realm has been gradually peeked into in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the Ant-Man movies, with Quantumania set to give it a full exploration. The movie will also mark the debut of the MCU’s new big bad Kang the Conqueror, with Jonathan Majors portraying Kang after appearing as his multiversal variant He Who Remains on Disney+’s Loki.

Kang is known as one of the most powerful and feared villains in Marvel Comics, with the powers of time travel and manipulation being just part of his vast abilities. Kang’s tool of the Forever Crystal is one of his greatest comic book weapons, and might have actually been briefly revealed in the Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania trailer (specifically at the 1:25 mark.) Should the Forever Crystal actually be included in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, its presence could provide clues to both its role and that of Kang in the MCU’s plans for Phases Four through Six (collectively dubbed the Multiverse Saga.)

Kang’s Forever Crystal Explained

The Forever Crystal was originally created by Nathaniel Richards a.k.a. Immortus, the father of Reed Richards (and future self of Kang) who time-travels to the future prevent mankind’s eventual conquest of worlds beyond Earth. Nathaniel manages to shrink the entire city of Chronopolis down to the Forever Crystal, which carries with it time-altering powers and the capacity to eliminate entire universes.

While Immortus uses it to prevent mankind’s eventual conquest of other worlds, the Forever Crystal is a far more sinister tool in the hands of the villainous Kang the Conqueror. The brief glimpse at what could potentially be the Forever Crystal in the Quantumania trailer does not reveal anything substantial about its possible role in the film. However, Kang’s presence and the general plot points that have been revealed could hint at how it will factor into Quatumania and the larger Multiverse Saga of Phases Four through Six.

How The Forever Crystal Could Fit Into Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania

With the Quantum Realm being the main setting of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, the multiversal powers of the Forever Crystal could be a significant part of the film’s story in helping to set up the Multiverse Saga. The passage of time is radically different in the Quantum Realm than on Earth, five hours in the Quantum Realm equivalent to five years on Earth as revealed by Scott Lang in Avengers: Endgame. Beyond that, it also raises some questions about Kang’s role in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, and possibly suggests that the MCU might be preparing to introduce the Forever Crystal through the Quantum Realm with such time disparities a key factor in the device’s time-travel and multiverse-traveling capabilities. With Immortus being the future self of Kang, the presence of the Forever Crystal could indicate that Immortus himself might be somewhat re-invented, possibly creating the Forever Crystal as a tool to escape the Quantum Realm. The Quantum Realm city itself seen in the trailer might also be the MCU’s version of Chronopolis, which might indicate the Forever Crystal is still in the early stages of being created in the film.

Given Kang’s much more sinister ambitions, he might be in pursuit of Immortus throughout the Quantum Realm in an effort to get hold of the Forever Crystal, and his goal is likely to be far more ruthless than merely escaping the dangerous environment of the Quantum Realm. Kang’s offer to Scott of « I can get you home and give you more time if you help me » could suggest the help Kang is requesting lies in retrieving the Forever Crystal. Kang’s offer could also tie into the possibility of the Forever Crystal still being assembled, with Kang offering passage back to Earth for Scott and his friends in exchange for them helping him prepare Chronopolis to be turned into the Forever Crystal. Clearly, that offer would be a non-starter for Scott and his allies, setting up a big conflict between them and Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. As for the MCU at large, the presence of the Forever Crystal in the movie will be just the beginning of Kang the Conqueror’s role in the Multiverse Saga.
