Ant-Man & the Wasp Quantumania Now Ties For Lowest Rated MCU Movie

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now tied for the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score rating of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The third Ant-Man solo movie is now out in theaters and is responsible for kicking off Phase 5. The film came with plenty of anticipation, and while it has proven to be a box office hit early on, the reception has not been entirely positive. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s reviews were very mixed after initially positive early reactions.

The continued divisiveness of the MCU Phase 5 movie has resulted in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania tying a record for the lowest score of any MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

With a 47 percent rotten score from critics, the film has now tied Eternals for being the lowest-rated MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Eternals are the only MCU movies ever to receive rotten critical ratings from the review aggregator site.

Is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania The Worst MCU Movie?

The record-setting Rotten Tomatoes score for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in some terms makes it part of the conversation for the worst MCU movie. The first two Ant-Man movies were very well-received by critics – hitting 84 and 87 percent fresh ratings – and general audiences. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Rotten Tomatoes score does include an 84 percent fresh audience rating, indicating that general moviegoers are enjoying the film far more than critics.

The disparity between the reception of the previous two franchise entries and the Phase 5 starter is still concerning. The negativity surrounding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s release means that it will at least partially be considered among the worst movies Marvel Studios has made, even if some do not agree with that label. The Rotten Tomatoes system is by no means perfect, but even Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, or The Incredible Hulk managed to secure fresh ratings many years ago.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s poor Rotten Tomatoes score might put it behind some of the other movies regularly considered to be on the lower end of MCU movie rankings. It comes after expectations for the films have risen considerably, and some fatigue is setting in with audiences. Considering Marvel Studios went over a decade without making a rotten movie but have now produced two in just over two years, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s low Rotten Tomatoes score could be a wake-up call to Kevin Feige that some changes are needed to keep the MCU as popular in Phase 5 as it became.
