Atom Smasher’s DCU Future Seemingly Confirmed By Black Adam Producer
Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia has seemingly confirmed that Atom Smasher’s DC Universe future. Black Adam premiered on October 21, and marked the introduction of several DC Comics characters into the DCU. Dwayne Johnson’s Teth-Adam, a.k.a. Black Adam, was officially introduced into the DC and took on the titular moniker of the film, with the powerful antihero catching the attention of a new DCU superhero team, The Justice Society of America (JSA). The team consisted of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo).
Garcia recently took to his Instagram to share a collection of Black Adam behind-the-scenes photos from the hit movie, including Centineo clad in his Atom Smasher uniform while standing on a staircase. Included in the post is a caption seemingly confirming Atom Smasher’s DCU future, with Garcia excited for audiences to learn more of the character. Check out the post below:
Where Atom Smasher Can Appear Next In The DCU
Garcia’s post isn’t an official confirmation that the JSA’s Atom Smasher will return to the DCU, however, it does make it sound like his return is a strong possibility. This is exciting considering there wasn’t much indication at the end of Black Adam that the JSA would be returning, though Garcia’s seeming confirmation also raises the question of when and where viewers could potentially see him. It isn’t likely that Centineo will appear in any of the upcoming confirmed DCU films like The Flash or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, instead making it more likely it would be in a Black Adam spinoff or sequel.
No Black Adam sequel or spinoffs have been confirmed at the time of writing, however, the film set the stage for multiple to become a reality. Since the JSA has been now been introduced, the DCU could develop a JSA spinoff in the form of a show or film, which would provide an opportunity to not only firmly establish the team in the DCU, but also to expand it, and explore Hawkman, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher further. Even if Black Adam doesn’t spurn a spinoff, it could give way to a sequel, with both Garcia and Johnson having previously opened up about having plans for a sequel, meaning there is hope that the film could be greenlit. If so, it would be the likeliest path to Atom Smasher’s return.
Another place that Atom Smasher could show up is in a sequel to The Suicide Squad. This film hasn’t been confirmed either, but there’s still a possibility that the James Gunn-directed reboot will get a sequel given he is now co-heading the newly rebranded DC Studios, and the first film scored rave reviews. In the comics, after Atom Smasher formed a connection with Black Adam, the two got into some trouble, which resulted in Atom Smasher being imprisoned and recruited into The Suicide Squad. Of course, it is questionable if the DCU would follow this storyline given that Centineo’s Atom Smasher is so young and light-hearted in Black Adam, but whether it is The Suicide Squad sequel, another Black Adam project, or something else entirely, there is plenty of room for the DCU to work in Atom Smasher’s return.
