Cabinet Of Curiosities: Graveyard Rats Cast & Character Guide
The second episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, « Graveyard Rats, » has a small but talented cast who truly make the installment stand out. Created by Guillermo del Toro, the Netflix anthology series consists of eight episodes, each inspired by a different short story. « Graveyard Rats » was released on October 25, 2022, along with the first episode, « Lot 36. » Unlike their other series releases, Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities episodes are released daily, two at a time, through October 28.
Based on the story by Henry Kuttner, the Cabinet of Curiosities episode « Graveyard Rats » is set in 1920s Salem, Massachusetts, and follows cemetery caretaker and grave robber Masson. In the episode, he tries to put his hands on the valuables of a wealthy merchant who recently arrived at the morgue where his friend Dooley works. Below is a look at who plays Masson and Dooley as well as a list of the supporting cast of « Graveyard Rats, » which character each actor plays, and where you’ve seen them before.
David Hewlett stars in the « Graveyard Rats » episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities as the protagonist, Masson. The cemetery caretaker needs to find new coffins to loot, yet rather than being put off by other grave robbers, his biggest foes are the rats infesting the cemetery. Besides appearing in Guillermo del Toro’s horror movie The Shape of Water, Hewlett also played Bill Ratch in Departure and Anthony Herman in the CBS series Clarice. More recently, Hewlett appeared in the Jason Momoa-led dystopian drama TV show See, created by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight.
Julian Richings plays Dooley, Masson’s medical examiner friend who doesn’t want him to know about the coroner’s latest rich patient. While the « Graveyard Rats » episode of Cabinet of Curiosities follows Masson most of the time, Dooley is established as central in the story, as they have already collaborated in the past and know each other well. Known for playing Lor-Em in Man of Steel, Richings also appeared in American Gods and Doom Patrol. Richings also famously played Chet Rodo as part of the cast of The Umbrella Academy season 3.
Ish Morris as Harry – Ish Morris plays Harry, a grave robber character in Cabinet of Curiosities’ « Graveyard Rats » episode. Morris has a prolific career in TV movies and has also appeared in The CW’s Batwoman and, more recently, the show Good Witch.
Alexander Eling as Burton – Alexander Eling plays Burton, a grave robber first scared off by Masson while on a mission with Harry. Eling cameoed in Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments and played Javier Almanzar in Another Life. he also appeared in Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things.
Nabeel El Khafif as Hans Overfist – Nabeel El Khafif plays Hans Overfist, the bruiser to whom Masson brings his loot in Cabinet of Curiosities’ « Graveyard Rats » episode. The actor played Hank in American Gods and appeared as a minor character in X-Men: Apocalypse. More recently, he played Alfred in Blood and Water.
Brigitte Robinson as the widow – Brigitte Robinson plays the widow of the wealthy merchant whom Masson has in his sights. Robinson also appeared in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. She recently played Mrs. Harrison in Luckiest Girl Alive.
Cory Bertrand as the widow’s son – Cory Bertrand appears in the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities’ « Graveyard Rats » episode as the son of the rich merchant and his widow. Bertrand starred in the Canadian drama Murdoch Mysteries. He also recently created and starred in Roommate Roulette on YouTube.
