House of the Dragon Episode 6 Deleted Scene Hints At Daemon’s Bisexuality

A House of the Dragon episode 6 deleted scene seemingly hints at Prince Daemon’s bisexuality. Taking place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the prequel show begins during a time of relative peace when the seeds to the Targaryen civil war of succession are first planted. The conflict truly begins when King Viserys bucks tradition by naming his daughter, Princess Rhaeneyra, heir to the Iron Throne.

At the time he names Rhaeneyra his heir, King Viserys passes over his hot-headed younger brother, Daemon. As a second son, Daemon lives in the shadow of his older brother who, by law, inherits all titles and holdings over him. Thus, Daemon tries desperately to make a name for himself in other ways, becoming known as the Rogue Prince for his unpredictable behavior. Despite his many shortcomings, the handsome Prince is a fierce warrior, an experienced dragon rider, and has managed to win the affection of fans. Following the 10-year time jump in House of the Dragon episode 6, Daemon is living in Pentos with his wife, Laena, and two daughters, Baela and Rhaena. One scene from Pentos sees Daemon whisper in a male’s ear while grabbing his arm. Some have interpreted the moment to be an intimate one, leading to speculation whether Daemon is bisexual.

Now, a deleted scene from House of the Dragon episode 6 has surfaced that adds new evidence to the idea that Prince Daemon might be bisexual. The deleted scene was revealed via a behind-the-scenes featurette shared by HBO Max and the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment was highlighted by Out of Context House of the Dragon on Twitter. Both the video (at the 2:32 mark) and the tweet show a brief look at Daemon being intimate with the same servant he was making eye contact with and whispering to earlier in episode 6.

In House of the Dragon’s source material, George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, Daemon’s sexuality is never explicitly stated. However, the Targaryen Prince does take three wives throughout his life, all of them female, in addition to his paramour, Mysaria. Daemon is also not one to suppress his desires, nor does he seem to care about taboos in Westeros surrounding sexual behavior. In episode 4, Daemon takes his niece, Rhaenyra, to a brothel where he is seen « coupling » with her.

In House of the Dragon episode 6, Daemon’s brief interactions with the unarmed servant had viewers curious about the nature of their relationship. Now, this deleted scene seemingly confirms that Daemon has a more intimate relationship with the man, something his wife Laena Velaryon may be okay with – she can be seen walking toward them casually in the brief clip. The snippet of this deleted scene is far too fleeting to say anything definitive about Daemon’s sexuality, though there is certainly evidence that Daemon may be bisexual in the show. Only time will tell whether House of the Dragon makes this facet of the character canon, or it if it simply remains another plotline on the cutting room floor of the show.
