Loki Season 2 Is A Fight To Save TVA’s Soul

Actor Tom Hiddleston says Loki season 2 is a fight to save the TVA’s soul. Released in 2021, Loki became the third Marvel Cinematic Universe television series produced for the Disney+ streaming service. As a result of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) bungling their attempt to steal the Tesseract during the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame, Loki (Hiddleston) escaped, only to be taken by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to correct the timeline. However, the Asgardian prince was recruited by the interdimensional enforcement agency to track down Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), a unique Loki variant that threatens the universe.

Loki season 1 concluded with Loki and Sylvie reaching the Citadel at the End of Time to find He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), the man who created the TVA to protect the multiverse from a potential catastrophic war. However, Sylvie kills him and sends Loki back to the TVA to find that everything has changed and no one remembers who he is. Loki season 2 returns to Disney+ in mid-2023, with Hiddleston, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Owen Wilson returning to their respective roles. The cast will be joined by Everything Everywhere All at Once star Ke Huy Quan.

While at Disney’s D23 Expo, EW caught up with Hiddleston, who shared that Loki season 2 will be a fight to save the TVA’s soul. The actor could not reveal much about the upcoming season, but teased that the TVA will be at the heart of what is to come in the next installment of the multiverse adventure. Read what Hiddleston said below:

Season 2’s kind of a challenge of a question asked of the TVA itself, a battle for the soul of the TVA.

With Hiddleston’s comments, the actor indicated that Loki season 2 will focus more on the TVA and the nature of the organization, as opposed to exploring various timelines created by Sylvie’s decision to kill He Who Remains. Although differing worlds will be covered, Quan’s addition to the Loki cast as an archivist in the TVA, as well as Eugene Cordero returning as a series regular, implies that season 2 will examine more of the interdimensional agency. With the Multiverse Saga already in full swing, the TVA is crucial to next phases of the MCU.

He Who Remains used the TVA to hold the multiverse together in a way that did not allow any other variants of Kang to be created. With He Who Remains dead, and Kang set to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the TVA may hold the key to controlling the splintered timelines and realigning the multiverse to avoid a devastating war that would ripple through space, time, and dimensions. Audiences must wait to see what role the TVA will play when Hiddleston returns in Loki season 2 next year.
