Madison Bailey & Madelyn Cline Preview Outer Banks Season 3

Outer Banks Season 3 is finally hitting Netflix on Friday, February 24 after over a year and a half wait. At the end of Season 2, viewers saw the Pogues wash up on a deserted island after barely escaping Ward’s ship with their lives. Temporarily out of danger and free to do as they please, the friends welcomed Cleo into the group and dubbed the island « Poguelandia. »
Yet, no matter how far away they get, trouble always has a way of finding John B and his friends in Outer Banks. As the race for the treasure continues to make them question themselves and those around them, the Pogues are forced to trust their instincts more than ever before. Season 3 stars Chase Stokes, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, and Carlacia Grant — and the show is already greenlit for a fourth season, guaranteeing more time with fan-favorite characters.
Screen Rant chats exclusively with stars Madison Bailey and Madelyn Cline about the Pogues’ time on Poguelandia, Kiara’s possible romance with JJ, and their most recent projects.
Madison Bailey And Madelyn Cline Preview Outer Banks Season 3
Screen Rant: The last time we saw the Pogues, they washed up on “Poguelandia.” How much time has passed when we pick back up in Season 3?
Madelyn Cline: Like 30 days?
Madison Bailey: A month, give or take.
How do your characters each feel about their situation? They might be stranded, but the island does parallel the surf trip Kiara was talking about with JJ.
Madison Bailey: That’s true. I think Kiara is in the middle. I think this is like the trip she wanted, but maybe she had a hotel in mind. Or somewhere to rinse off or something a little less…
Madelyn Cline: Stranded?
Madison Bailey: Yeah. Less stranded.
Madelyn Cline: [Sarah feels] Maybe similar to Kiara. I think there were some thoughts of personal hygiene, for sure. I think she’s dealing with some family things that she’s probably working out and what better place to do it than on a stranded island? And she’s surrounded by friends.
Fans have been rooting for a JJ and Kiara romance since the first season. From what we’ve seen in the Season 3 trailer, it looks like things could be headed in that direction. Can you tease anything on that front?
Madison Bailey: I think you’ll see Kiara and JJ exploring chemistry that we’ve seen from them in past seasons, and maybe see something into fruition and just feeling it out.
Given her past with Pope, could that cause any tension in the friend group?
Madison Bailey: It totally could. But I think the Pogues have a pretty good understanding of like, « We’re friends above any other drama. » I think we’ve seen them evade a lot of drama by just knowing that we’re all friends. Pope and Kiara didn’t work out…
Madelyn Cline: That’s how it goes sometimes.
A lot has happened since this hunt first began, so is finding the treasure still going to be the Pogues’ main focus?
Madelyn Cline: I think that’s kind of the common thread. I think that’s the touchstone for all of our characters, but I think it’s the friendship and relationships that hold it all together. So, that’s obviously still a major theme.
Madison Bailey: Yeah, of course. The treasure hunt will always be the theme, but I think we zoom out a little this season.
Yeah, the show really is about the bond between the Pogues, so that’s something we’re going to continue to see this season?
Madelyn Cline: For sure.
Madison Bailey: Absolutely.
What about Sarah’s relationship with her family? Ward and Rafe have both done some pretty irredeemable things to her and her friends. Is there any chance of reconciliation in Sarah’s eyes?
Madelyn Cline: I don’t know about Rafe. Rafe is… Well, they’re both psychopathic. I think she still has a lot of love in her heart for her dad because he’s her dad. I think she wants to see the best in both her dad and her brother, but she keeps getting her heart broken. We’ll explore her family dynamics this season, for sure. But I think, ultimately, Sarah just wants to see the best in people.
Sarah is no longer the newest member of the Pogues. Cleo has been sucked into this adventure with them, so how is she going to fit in with the group?
Madelyn Cline: She fits right in.
Madison Bailey: Yeah, Cleo fits right in with the group. In her own words, she does bring a certain level-headedness to the group coming from just a different walk of life. She brings a lot of wisdom to the table for the Pogues.
Madelyn Cline: And logic.
Madelyn, I know you were in Glass Onion which has gotten a lot of attention recently. How was working with Dave Bautista?
Madelyn Cline: Dave is amazing. The whole cast is amazing. Shoutout to his new movie, Knock at the Cabin. It was just a great experience. The whole cast is really wonderful.
Madison, as a fan of Outer Banks and Ginny and Georgia, I was super excited to see you have an upcoming film with Antonia. Is there anything you can say about Time Cut?
Madison Bailey: Time Cut is a really fun movie. I’m excited for people to see it. Antonia was incredible to work with. She is my adopted sister now. It’s a fun watch. It’s a little [bit of a] thriller, [it’s] suspenseful, but it’s a feel-good movie.
Madelyn Cline: I’ve been really excited to see it.
About Outer Banks Season 3
After losing the gold and fleeing the Outer Banks, Season 3 finds the Pogues washed ashore on a desert island that, for a brief moment, seems like an idyllic home. Officially deemed “Poguelandia,” the island’s newest residents spend their days fishing, swimming, and reveling in the carefree lifestyle of their temporary dwelling.
But things quickly go south for John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo when they find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives. They’re broke and far from home, they can’t trust anyone, Ward and Rafe are hungry for revenge, and there’s a ruthless Caribbean Don who will stop at nothing to find the bounty. Was the treasure ever within their reach? Or was it all a trap to stop them once and for all? Either way, it’s the Pogues against the world – and the only way out is together.
Outer Banks Season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix starting Friday, February 24.
