New Pokémon Greavard Was Predicted By The Simpsons, Memes Say

Fans have joked that The Simpsons were able to predict an unsettling amount of historical developments and pop culture trends over the decades, and it seems that one of them was Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s new Greavard. Pokémon fans have been waiting all year for the release of the Generation Nine games, and Game Freak has slowly unveiled many of the new creatures players will be able to collect and train across Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s European-inspired Paldea region.

One of the most recent Pokémon to be revealed is Greavard, a doglike Ghost-type creature whose presence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was leaked a few days before its official unveiling yesterday. While Greavard may look like a cute, shaggy canine, it may actually be one of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s deadliest Pokémon thanks to its unsettling ability to drain the life out of anything that comes near it – even humans. It also has a handy Pickup ability that lets it take an item from a defeated opponent. Other than that, fans are excited to see a new dog-themed Pokémon to go with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s pastry-like Fidough.

As it turns out, The Simpsons may have predicted Greavard’s appearance many years before Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was revealed to the world. Twitter user and video game voice actor Beau Bridgland (who is known for his work in games like Genshin Impact and the now shut-down Final Fantasy VII: The First SOLDIER) recently shared a humorous meme in which Marge Simpson asks about a “ghost mutt,” followed by a screenshot of Greavard. Bridgland humorously notes that The Simpsons has predicted the future once again, while other users have compared Greavard’s shaggy grey fur to Mumbly of The Mumbly Cartoon Show.

Greavard’s appearance in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is just the latest prediction made by The Simpsons, as the long-running animated sitcom has made jokes alluding to things like Disney buying Fox and Vice President Kamala Harris’s blue Inauguration Day outfit decades before they came to pass in the real world. One episode in particular featured Bart playing a virtual reality game called “Yard Work Simulator,” a premise that seems bizarrely similar to modern simulation titles like Power Wash Simulator and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

It seems that not even Pokémon are exempt from The Simpsons’ uncanny ability to predict the future decades in advance, as Marge was able to accurately describe the appearance of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s brand-new “ghost mutt” Greavard. She has finally gotten her request for such a creature in the latest generation of Pokémon, and fans all around the world will be able to encounter Greavard when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launches on the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
