She-Hulk’s Tim Roth Reflects On Filming Emil Blonsky’s Wellness Retreat

Warning! Spoilers ahead for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 1, episode 7She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s Tim Roth, who plays Emil Blonsky, aka Abomination, reflects on filming episode 7’s wellness retreat scenes. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law chronicles the struggles of Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she attempts to balance her career as a lawyer with her newfound ability to turn into a Hulk. The latest Disney+ MCU series has been a hit with critics thus far, with many praising the show’s humor as well as Maslany’s leading performance as She-Hulk. After a relatively self-contained wedding episode last week, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 7 brings back a familiar face.
First introduced in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, Roth’s Blonsky returns in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law as a seemingly changed man. In earlier episodes of the show, Walters gets Blonsky released from prison on parole, with episode 7 finally delving more into Blonsky’s life as a spiritual guru. After becoming trapped at Blonsky’s wellness retreat, Walters is introduced to a host of new Marvel characters, including Man-Bull (Nathan Hurd), El Aguila (Joseph Castillo-Midyett), Saracen (Terrence Clowe), Porcupine (Jordan Aaron Ford), and Wrecker (Nick Gomez). Although unsure of Blonsky’s methods and his disciples at first, Walter’s She-Hulk is eventually able to find some inner peace after participating in a therapy circle.
In a new interview with Marvel.com, Roth reflects on filming the scenes at Blonsky’s wellness retreat in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 7. Roth dishes out high praise for all of his therapy circle co-stars, singling out Clowe’s Seracen as his favorite new character of the bunch due to his unpredictability. The actor also reveals that in addition to all the laughs that made it into the episode, constant joking from his co-stars made it hard to keep a straight face on set. Check out Roth’s full comment below:
“[Emil] loves his chickens. He has his pattern down, his therapy, his understanding. Speaking as someone who has that kind of thing, it’s incredibly fun to play.
You have to always be careful of [Saracen] because you never knew where he was going to be…I loved him. I loved that guy. I think viewers are going to be quite surprised by the population of [the therapy circle]. It’s wild. All of them had created their own little universe, and they all interacted brilliantly. And they were very funny! At times, it was very hard to keep a straight face. I probably didn’t. But, you know, it was a talent fest. Lovely, lovely, lovely people.”
In addition to introducing new heroes, the latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law also brought back Gomez’s Wrecker, who attacked Walters only a few episodes prior. Like Blonsky, however, Wrecker now seems rehabilitated and ready to put his criminal past behind him, working with the likes of Man-Bull and El Aguila to help Walters get over being ghosted by Josh (Trevor Salter). Although it’s possible the new heroes introduced in episode 7 are just guest stars who won’t return, it’s possible they could play an important role in the events to come.
With Josh having secured Walters’ DNA for the Intelligencia, as revealed at the very end of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s episode 7, it’s possible that a big, Hulk-sized threat is on the horizon. With Man-Bull, Porcupine, El Aguila (who is actually a mutant), Saracen, and Wrecker having helped Walters overcome her emotional issues, it’s possible that they could also play a role in helping her defeat whatever enemy may be coming up next. With Roth’s Abomination also seemingly on-side, recent episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law have seen Walters’ group of allies steadily growing to match her growing number of faceless enemies.
