The Sandman Creators Are ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ For Season 2 Renewal

Now, in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Markiewicz is revealing that creators still have hope for The Sandman season 2. He shares that while the show has performed well, there are a lot of other things that go into receiving a renewal. He also adds that they are looking at this as « an investment, » and that if given the opportunity to move forward with more stories, they want to be in the right place. Read Markiewicz’s quote regarding the potential for a season 2 of The Sandman below:

« We’re all cautiously optimistic. I think Allan does not have any secret knowledge. I think that, at this point, the show has performed in the way that it has, we feel pretty confident with that, we also understand that there’s a lot of things that go into that decision. We’re trying to be enthusiastic, but respectful, of that process. For us, we want to be in a position to put our best foot forward, so I think we’re looking at it as an investment to say, « We hope that it moves forward, we hope that we’re in a position to get to do this again, and if we are in that position, we want to be in a place where we feel like we use the time available the best that we see fit ». We also enjoy each other’s company, and it’s a fun thing, so it doesn’t feel like it’s a big work thing. It’s like we get to get together and talk about something that we’re excited about, so the hope is that we know, on the sooner side, in terms of what that decision is, but at this point, it is still totally speculative. »

Shortly after the series was released, Gaiman commented on The Sandman season 2, noting that Netflix wanted to wait a month to see how it continued to perform. Not committing to a season 2 at the time of a show’s debut is normal for the streaming service, especially when it is a project as expensive as The Sandman. Still, the longer it puts off announcing its fate, the more unpredictable the decision becomes, and with fan support, including online petitions, increasing every day, a cancelation would be another blow for the streamer after almost a year of controversy.
